Virender Sehwag, while discussing the recent IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad, rebuked Ishan Kishan for sacrificing his wicket.

The incident occurred during the opening delivery of the third over of Hyderabad's innings. Ishan attempted to glance a leg-side length ball from Deepak Chahar, but was unable to make sufficient contact, therefore, he walked off the field despite no appeal from any Mumbai Indians player.

Later replays revealed that no portion of Ishan's body, let alone the bat, came into contact with the ball, leaving everyone puzzled why he chose to give up his wicket without even waiting for a harsh sentence from the umpire.

Sehwag stated that Kishan made a huge brain fade as he walked away without even waiting for the umpire to decide or taking a DRS review. He stated that he should have waited and let the on-field umpire make the final decision, since they are being paid to do their job as well.

Many times, the mind fails to work at that moment. It was brain fade. Ruk toh jaa. Umpire bhi paise le rahe hai (Stop at least and wait for the umpire to make his decision. He is also charging some amount of money for his job)," Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

Let him do his work. I could not understand this honesty. Had it been an edge, it would have been understandable because that would be in the spirit of the game. But it was neither out; the umpire was unsure, and you started walking off all of a sudden," Sehwag said.

The wicket saw Ishan’s poor run of form continue in the ongoing Indian Premier League as he keeps struggling to score runs after a hundred in the first game.

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their sixth match of IPL 2025, their sixth loss in eight matches, to remain at the ninth spot in the table. On the other hand, MI moved to the third spot with their 4th straight win in the tournament.
