Rashid Khan has been in a bit of mess in the ongoing IPL 2025 for his side Gujarat Titans (GT). He has picked up only 6 wickets in 8 games thus far. Last year, he had picked up just 10 wickets in 12 matches last year at an economy rate of 8.40.
Former England batter Nick Knight, who is commentating in this IPL, got a curt reply when he attempted to question Rashid's form or lack thereof to his spin-bowling partner, Sai Kishore.
Rashid, who had only four wickets in seven games prior to GT's encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday, returned with stats of 2/25, his best of the year.
Following the match, which GT won by 39 runs, Knight questioned Sai Kishore about Rashid's tournament performance. Kishore went on the defense right away, calling Rashid the 'greatest T20 bowler in the world' and claiming that the GT team and players always support him because they have no idea what it's like in the commentary box.
"What about Rashid Khan? Your spin twin. It hasn't been the ideal tournament for him. But a couple of wickets (today) in crucial time, how's it going for him?" asked Knight to Kishore in the post-match chat.
"He's one of the best T20 bowlers in the world. He's getting his wicket-taking knack back. As a team, we don't doubt his abilities, I don't know what it's like in the commentary box. We all believe in him and I still believe he's the best T20 bowler in the world," replied Kishore.
Knight then informed Kishore that the pundits believe Rashid is one of the greatest in the profession and so want him to succeed.
"We never doubt him. That's why we want him to do well," said Knight before moving on to the next question.
Shubman Gill led the way with a 55-ball 90. Gujarat made 198-3 after Sai Sudharsan, who scored 52, and Gill added 114 runs for the first wicket to create the groundwork for the total.
The spinners then combined to restrict Kolkata to 159-8, with skipper Ajinkya Rahane scoring 50 on his own to give Gujarat its sixth win in eight matches.
"The talk has been about playing good cricket, not about the results. Our fielding was very good today. We are just addressing areas where we can play better as a team," said Kishore, who picked the important of wicket Venkatesh Iyer and conceded just 19 runs in his three overs.
GT now has a long break and will next face RR in Jaipur on April 28.
