The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans clashed in the 39th match of the IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens on April 21, 2025. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first at Eden Gardens.
GT was buoyed by the huge opening stand of 114 runs between Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill. Sudharsan got out for 52 in 36 balls, while Shubman Gill made 90 with 10 fours and 3 sixes in 55 balls.
Jos Buttler then slammed 41* in 23 balls with 8 fours to propel GT to 198/3 in 20 overs.
In response, KKR lost openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (1) and Sunil Narine (17) early. Ajinkya Rahane with 50 in 36 balls and Venkatesh Iyer with 14 in 19 balls, stabilized the innings, but batted too defensively.
This left the next batters with humongous task of hitting the big shots from ball one. Rinku Singh (17), Andre Russell (21) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27*) tried, but KKR could only post 159/8 in 20 overs. Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan took 2 wickets each for GT.
KKR lost the game to GT by 39 runs and slipped to 7th spot in the points table of IPL 2025. GT, on the other hand, maintained their hold of the top spot on the table.
