Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a memorable IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday (April 19). At 14 year and 23 days, the southpaw became the youngest ever IPL debutant when he walked out to bat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The teenage sensation made an immediate impact and smashed the first delivery he faced for a huge six over covers. He went on to score 34 off just 20 balls, including three sixes and two fours.
Suryavanshi, who was named an Impact Substitute by the Royals, stitched an 85-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal during a run-chase of 181. His innings was ended by Aiden Markram, who got him stumped by Rishabh Pant.
During his knock, Suryavanshi also became the youngest batter to hit a six and four in the cash-rich league.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s exploits in his maiden IPL innings impressed the cricket fraternity members and they showered rich praise on the youngster through social media.
Here are the reactions:
Coming to the match, LSG won the toss and opted to bat first. Half-centuries from Aiden Markram (66 in 45 balls, with five fours and three sixes), Ayush Badoni (50 in 34 balls, with five fours and a six) and a cameo from Abdul Samad (30* in 10 balls, with four sixes) took LSG to 180/5 in their 20 overs.
RR fell short of the target by two runs as Jaiswal’s 74-run knock off 52 balls went in vain. It was Royals’ fourth loss on the trot.
