Abhishek Nayar has officially joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp in the middle of the IPL 2025 season. The KKR side shared a welcome post for Nayar on their social media on April 19, 2025.
KKR are 6th on the IPL 2025 points table and will next face Gujarat Titans at home in Kolkata on Monday.
Abhishek Nayar’s contract as Team India assistant coach was recently terminated by the BCCI. The BCCI had also chosen not to renew the contracts of fielding coach T Dilip, strength and conditioning coach Sohan Desai, and an unnamed masseur.
Nayar also has a good rapport with India's Test and ODI skipper, Rohit Sharma. He was promoted to the national squad after receiving great recognition for his work with young Indian players as an assistant coach at KKR, a franchise that has recently produced several national team players.
Nayar had been in Indian team support staff for eight months and during this, India suffered humiliating Test series defeats to New Zealand and Australia, winning only one Test in 8 matches played.
Now, Nayar has gone back to the KKR camp, where he will work with Dwayne Bravo, the mentor, and Chandrakant Pandit, the head coach.
