Delhi Capitals batter Karun Nair apologised to DC co-owner Parth Jindal after he lauded Nair’s assault on Jasprit Bumrah during the IPL 2025 match between MI and DC in Delhi.
The 33-year-old responded to Jindal's April 14 post, in which he discussed the heartbreaks suffered by his clubs in the Indian Super League (ISL) and Indian Premier League.
Jindal, the founder of JSW Sports, which owns Indian Super League club Bengaluru FC and IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, watched both of his clubs lose in dramatic manner this week.
Bengaluru FC fell 1-2 to Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the ISL Final on April 12 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Jamie Maclaren scored the winning goal in the sixth minute of extra time, ending Bengaluru's title ambitions.
A day later, DC finished second to the Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. MI batted first and scored 205/5, owing to Tilak Varma's 59 runs from 33 balls, Ryan Rickelton's 41 from 25 balls, and a cameo from Naman Dhir (38 from 17 balls).
In response, DC were stopped on 193 all out, losing by 12 runs, with Nair the standout of the night. In his first encounter since IPL 2022, the DC batter hit 89 runs from 40 balls in an outstanding performance.
The highlight of Nair’s brilliant half-century was his assault on MI’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Nair scored two boundaries in his first bowling match against perhaps the best bowler in the world. He upped the ante in the next over, hitting two sixes and a boundary in an over that yielded 18 runs.
"Not the greatest of weekends for us - losing the ISL Cup finals after being the better team and then losing to MI when in control, however got to watch the most brilliant knock by Karun Nair - don’t think iv [I've] seen anyone play better against [Jasprit] Bumrah. These type of weekends make you realise how in sport nothing is certain - we will work harder and be back stronger," Jindal wrote on X.
In reply on Friday, Nair wrote, "Thank you so much Parth????????❤️ sorry I couldn’t finish the game off????????"
