IPL 2025: CSK sign Dewald Brevis as replacement for injured Gurjapneet Singh

Dewald Brevis has played in IPL for Mumbai Indians previously.

Dewald Brevis, known as ‘Baby AB’, has been signed by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the remainder of the IPL 2025 tournament on April 18, 2025. The South African star has been signed to replace injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh.

Dewald Brevis failed to find any buyer at the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by the Mumbai Indians.

Dewald Brevis first made news at the 2022 ICC Men's U19 World Cup when he scored 506 runs in just six innings, including two centuries and three half-centuries. His amazing performances rapidly gained international recognition.

The right-handed batter has played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, MI New York in Major League Cricket (USA), St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League, as well as Morrisville Samp Army and New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

In the 2025 SA20 League, Brevis finished as the second-highest run-scorer with 291 runs in the tournament. Overall, in his T20 career so far, the 21-year-old batter has played 81 matches, scoring 1787 runs at an average of 26.27 with a strike rate of 144.93.

“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa's Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I Debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far. Brevis was previously part of Mthe umbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore,” the IPL statement read.

The Chennai Super Kings had also announced Dewald Brevis’ signing for IPL 2025 on social media. They posted on X: “Bringing a whole lot of Protea Firepower!
