Alan Wilkins, a popular cricket commentator and former England and Welsh cricketer, has been cleared of throat cancer and will join the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 commentary team.
The commentator legend, who has provided the voice for countless famous international and IPL matches, will shortly travel in India to join the ongoing season.
Wilkins took to social media to announce that he had been cleared of throat cancer and expressed his enthusiasm to return to the IPL. In his post, the 71-year-old expressed how this new chapter has made him feel youthful all over again.
“Knowing that I am heading to India ???????? to work on the @IPL after being given the All Clear from throat cancer by @VelindreCS @VelindreTrust @Velindre makes me feel incredibly blessed. And “young” again! Never Give Up,” he posted on X.
The former left-arm pacer earned over a century of First-Class outings, with 243 wickets, until a shoulder injury ended his career. He also had 104 List-A caps before switching to radio in 1984.
He was a member of the IPL commentary panel for the 2013 and 2014 seasons of the lucrative T20 extravaganza, as well as hosting in-house shows in 2015 and 2018.
