Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel gave a hilarious reply to Murali Kartik after his team’s unbeaten run in the ongoing IPL 2025 season came to an end on Sunday (April 13).
Mumbai Indians (MI) broke DC’s four-match winning streak in the tournament. The Capitals failed to chase down the target of 206 as they were bowled out for 193 in 19 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
In the post-match interview, Kartik asked Axar where did the game go? To which, the DC captain replied: “Mumbai ke pass (towards Mumbai Indians).”
Axar’s response left everyone in splits as the moment became viral on social media.
Axar Patel rued soft dismissals and bad shots during the run chase, which led to them losing from a dominating position. He also praised the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam for not allowing the MI batters to dictate terms.
“We had the game in the bag. Some soft dismissals and bad shots in the middle order. You can't leave it to the batters in the lower order everytime. Don't need to overthink, just one of those days. Was happy at the halfway stage. The ball was stopping initially but it got better. And then dew helped us further. Out of our three spinners, two can bowl in powerplay and death as well. Kuldeep is bowling unbelievably well. Need to forget this game from a batting point of view,” Axar said at the post-match presentation.
DC were cruising at 119/1 in 10.1 overs, needing 87 runs to win from 59 balls. However, the dismissal of a well-set Abhishek Porel (33 off 25) and Karun Nair (89 off 40) - who looked determined to finish the game all by himself – triggered a dramatic collapse. As a result, DC ended up losing five wickets in as many overs and were reduced to 160/6 in 15.3 overs.
The five-time champions held their nerve and managed to get back into the game as three consecutive run-outs in the 19th over got DC bundled out for 193. Hence, MI won by 12 runs and added two crucial points to their tally.
