MS Dhoni’s dismissal during CSK’s match against KKR at Chepauk on Friday (April 11) became a topic of debate. The fixture marked Dhoni’s return as the CSK captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament with a fractured elbow.

Coming on to bat at No.9, Dhoni went forward and tried to flick a Sunil Narine delivery, but missed the line. The ball hit the pads as Narine went up in his appeal. Chris Gaffaney waited initially before raising his finger, and Dhoni opted for a review straightaway.

Although there seemed to be a gap between the bat and the ball, the UltraEdge also showed a murmur as the ball passed the bat. He was eventually given out by the third umpire for 1 off 4 balls.

While this decision stirred controversy and divided opinions among fans and experts, former India opener Virender Sehwag offered his unique perspective over the dismissal.

Speaking on Star Sports, Sehwag said even if Dhoni had been not out, it would not have made any difference to the outcome of the match.

"I doubt CSK would have won even if MS Dhoni had batted. How many would they have scored? 120? How many overs did KKR chase the target in? 10.1? We would have come live at 11:30 PM, that's about it," Sehwag stated.

Coming to the match, CSK’s dismal run in the IPL 2025 season continued as they suffered a humiliating eight-wicket defeat against KKR at home.

Invited to bat first, the five-time champions managed a paltry 103/9 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a listless performance with the bat as no one managed to touch the 40-run mark. Shivam Dube was the top scorer with 31* off 29 balls.

Sunil Narine (3-13), Harshit Rana (2-16) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2-22) were the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for KKR.

In reply, the defending champions overhauled the target with 59 deliveries to spare, handing CSK their fifth defeat of the season in six matches so far.

Chennai Super Kings are now languishing in ninth place on the 10-team points table. The five-time champions will next face Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday (April 14).
