Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stalwart batter Virat Kohli couldn’t control his laughter after watching his old interview from the 2011 edition of IPL.
In that clip, Kohli can be seen speaking at the post-match presentation after collecting the Player of the Match award. He had received this honour for guiding RCB to a thrilling win over Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
Four years since his IPL debut, Kohli grabbed his maiden Player of the Match award in front of his home crowd in Delhi. The then 22-year-old slammed 56 off 38 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes, helping RCB chase down the target of 162 with three balls to spare.
In the post-match interview, Kohli talked about how he took over the aggressor role in his 82-run partnership with Chris Gayle. "To be honest, I did not plan to bat like that. But when I started to hit the ball well, I took charge from Chris. That was the plan in the middle so that he could play himself in, and I could go for my shots because I was hitting it well," he can be heard saying in the video.
Speaking on JioHotstar, Kohli gave a hilarious reaction when he was shown that exact video of him from 14 years back.
"I don't even know what I said. You guys brought it here from somewhere," he said.
Kohli then carefully listened through the video, and was left slightly embarrassed over his comment on Gayle.
"Chris could play himself in? Waah! Ghalat fehmi dekh lo (Look at the misunderstanding)! Since the social media boom, fans have started analysing players' quotes, which has become way too twisted," he added.
Virat Kohli is currently plying his trade for RCB in the IPL 2025 season. In four matches so far, the star batter has registered scores, 59*, 31, 7 and 67.
RCB have won three out of their four games and will next face Delhi Capitals at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday (April 10).
