The 22nd match of the IPL 2025 saw the Punjab Kings (PBKS) hosting the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh on April 8, 2025. Shreyas Iyer, the PBKS captain, won the toss and chose to bat first.
Priyansh Arya was a one-man army for PBKS, scoring 103 in 42 balls with 7 fours and 9 sixes as wickets fell at the other end. Only during the final few overs did Shashank Singh (52* in 36 balls) and Marco Jansen (34* in 19 balls) push the PBKS total to 219/6 in 20 overs.
Khaleel Ahmed and R Ashwin picked two wickets each.
In response, the CSK batting never got that momentum that could lay a platform for such a big chase. Rachin Ravindra (36) got a start but was dismissed by Glenn Maxwell. Devon Conway (69) and Shivam Dube (42 in 27 balls) steadied the ship, but their partnership came at a slower pace than expected.
MS Dhoni came in at no.5 and smoked 27 in 12 balls, but the total was too much for CSK to chase, and they finished on 201/5 in 20 overs. PBKS won by 18 runs and moved to 4th place on the IPL 2025 points table.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the PBKS team and lauded them on social media.
