Virat Kohli threw his cap in frustration after seeing his teammates commit a glaring mistake to give Suryakumar Yadav a reprieve during the IPL 2025 fixture between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday (April 7).
RCB may have emerged victorious in Mumbai for the first time in 10 years, but Kohli's emotions got the better of him during the match when Yash Dayal and Jitesh Sharma made a mess of the catch.
The incident unfolded during the 12th over of MI’s innings as Dayal bowled a slower delivery in the quest to outsmart Suryakumar. The left-arm quick succeeded in it but failed to get the wicket.
Surya got an edge on it and the ball went high in the air, with Dayal and wicketkeeper Jitesh making attempts to grab the catch. However, the two collided in the middle due to poor communication, resulting in the catch getting spilled.
Kohli observed it all closely and was left furious by his teammates' efforts. He expressed his anger by throwing his cap on the ground.
The video went viral on social media, and Kohli’s act reminded some fans of Rahul Dravid, who also threw his cap in 2014 while serving as the Rajasthan Royals coach.
Coming to the match, RCB racked up a mammoth 221/5 on the board after being asked to bat first. Virat Kohli (67 off 42) and Rajat Patidar (64 off 32) slammed stunning half-centuries while Jitesh Sharma also played a stunning came of 40 not out in just 19 balls.
In reply, RCB overcame a scary partnership between Tilak Varma (56 off 29) and skipper Hardik Pandya (42 off 15) to restrict MI to 209/9 in 20 overs, winning the match by 12 runs.
