Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has reacted sharply to criticism directed at his team on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel after their loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday (April 5).
In the post-match presser, Fleming had a surprising look on his face when asked about the same, admitting he didn’t even know Ashwin had a YouTube channel.
The controversy erupted after a video featuring former RCB analyst Prasanna Agoram aired on Ashwin’s channel.
During the episode, Prasanna questioned CSK's decision to play Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad over veterans like Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin himself. The video was later removed, sparking curiosity and speculation among fans and the media.
“I have no idea. I didn’t even know he had a channel, so I don’t follow that stuff. That’s irrelevant,” Fleming told reporters.
CSK have lost three out of their four games in the ongoing IPL season so far. Their most recent defeat came against DC at Chepauk.
Chasing 184 to win, the hosts got off to a terrible start, losing their top-three batters for just 41 runs. Rachin Ravindra (3), Devon Conway (13) and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (5) failed to make a mark in the powerplay. The likes of Shivam Dube (18) and Ravindra Jadeja (2) were also dismissed cheaply as CSK found themselves reeling at 74/5.
While Vijay Shankar (69* off 54) tried to resurrect the innings, he didn’t get enough support as the asking rate kept on climbing. Veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni struggled for most part of his unbeaten 30-run knock off 26 balls as CSK’s innings was eventually restricted to 158/5 in 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings will next travel to Mullanpur to take on Punjab Kings on April 8.
