Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad within the next two days, having received fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) medical team.
Bumrah has been out of competitive action since the fifth BGT Test against Australia in Sydney, where he sustained a lower back injury. The right-arm quick didn’t feature in India’s triumphant Champions Trophy 2025 campaign as he failed to recover in time.
As of today, Bumrah has already missed MI’s four matches in the ongoing IPL. But sources have told Sports Today that Bumrah will link up with the MI squad ahead of their upcoming game against RCB. However, he is unlikely to participate in the match, scheduled for April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium.
As per sources, Bumrah will be needed to undergo a couple of match simulations before being considered match-fit.
While the CoE has granted him medical clearance, the MI management will monitor him closely during the simulation games, thus his participation in the RCB fixture seems highly unlikely.
Bumrah is likely to feature in the playing XI for Mumbai Indians' away fixture against Delhi Capitals on April 13.
Jasprit Bumrah’s absence is being felt in the MI playing XI as the five-time champions have lost three out of their four matches in the tournament so far.
In their last fixture, MI’s bowling attack conceded 203 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliance in the chase, MI fell 12 runs short of the total.
