Rajasthan Royals (RR) received a huge boost ahead of their 4th IPL 2025 match as Sanju Samson will return as their captain. Samson, who had suffered a finger fracture, played the first three matches as an impact sub, with Riyan Parag captaining the RR side.
This was because, while Samson was cleared by the BCCI medical team to bat, he was not given the green signal to keep wickets, leading to him deputing captaincy duties of RR to Parag.
However, as per reports, Sanju Samson went to CoE (Centre of Excellence) for a checkup and received all clear from BCCI doctors to resume wicketkeeping duties. This means Samson will also return as RR captain from their next match in IPL 2025.
"Yes, he has cleared the final fitness tests at the NCA," a reliable source in the BCCI told Times of India.
It means that Samson will be leading the Rajasthan Royals in their next match on April 5 against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur.
Samson has ample time to return to wicketkeeping duties, according to a source, if he passes a few "final fitness tests".
Samson has scored 66 (against SRH), 13 (vs KKR), and 20 (vs CSK) in his three games as an Impact Player. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel took wickets for the squad.
The Royals have had a tumultuous start to their IPL season, losing their first two games before winning their maiden game against the Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on Sunday night.
