The 8th match of the IPL 2025 saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) creating history against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they registered their first win at Chepauk in Chennai since the 2008 IPL. This match was played on March 28, 2025.
RCB did not get off to a blazing start like the last occasion, as Phil Salt (32) was cleanly trapped by MS Dhoni, while Virat Kohli struggled for 31.
However, captain Rajat Patidar boosted the RCB innings with 51 in 32 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal hit 27 in 14 balls. Liam Livingstone (10), Jitesh Sharma (12), and Tim David (22*) helped the RCB reach 196/7 in 20 overs. CSK's Noor Ahmad took three wickets, with Matheesha Pathirana taking two scalps.
Rachin Ravindra responded with 41 runs as the rest of the top and middle order disintegrated under excellent RCB bowling. Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad (0), Deepak Hooda, and Sam Curran all finished with single-digit scores.
Shivam Dube (18) demonstrated his hitting skills, while Ravindra Jadeja scored a fast 25 runs. MS Dhoni surprised everyone by coming out to bat at number nine and scoring 30* in 16 balls, helping CSK end on 146/8. Josh Hazlewood took three wickets, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone took 2 wickets each for RCB.
RCB won by 50 runs, their second win in as many IPL 2025 matches. This was also their first win in Chepauk since the 2008 IPL.
