The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans made a dismal start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, losing by 11 runs to the Punjab Kings on Tuesday.
Shreyas Iyer (97*) and Shashank Singh (44*) were the best performers for PBKS, who posted 243/5 in 20 overs. In the chase, Sai Sudarshan hit a stunning 74-run knock, and Jos Buttler made 54, but it was insufficient to win the match for GT, as they made 232/5 in 20 overs.
Washington Sundar, an all-rounder for the Indian cricket team, was notably excluded from the GT playing XI. A fan questioned the move on social media, asking how a player like Sundar could not make the team despite playing for the national side.
“How Sundar sneaks into the best 15 of India but doesn't get a place in any IPL XI when 10 teams exist is a mystery,” the fan posted on the social media platform X.
He received a reply from none other than the Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Pichai posted: “I have been wondering this too."
Notably, Washington Sundar was bought by GT for INR 3.20 Crores. He was previously with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he played just 2 matches in IPL 2024.
Many other fans shared this sentiment, replying to and quoting this post and sharing their views on Washinton Sundar’s exclusion.
