Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced off against his former franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025 in Vizag on Monday. DC won the match out of nowhere thanks to the heroics of Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam with the bat.

The Delhi Capitals won the toss and Axar Patel decided to bowl first. While Aiden Markram was dismissed for 15 runs, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran added 87 runs for the second wicket. Marsh scored 72 in 36 balls, with six fours and six sixes, whereas Pooran scored 75 in 30 balls, with six fours and seven sixes.

Once they were gone, LSG, which appeared to be on track to score more than 220 runs, was reduced to 209/8 in 20 overs, partly due to David Miller's 27* off 19 balls. Mitchell Starc got three wickets for DC, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed two.

DC got a terrible start to their chase, losing three fast wickets for seven runs. Faf du Plessis (29) and Axar Patel (22) helped to steady the ship, but when they left and Tristan Stubbs (34) was removed, DC was at 113/6 after 12.3 overs. On the other hand, 

Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh Sharma received significant overs due to their outstanding big-hitting. On debut, Nigam scored 39 runs in 15 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes, and combined 55 runs with Ashutosh in 22 balls.

Ashutosh stayed unbeaten on 66 in 31 balls, with five fours and five sixes, as DC won by one wicket.

Meanwhile, before the Ashutosh Sharma mayhem began in the last three overs, Rishabh Pant managed to find some fun in the tense situation.

The task grew considerably more tough when Delhi lost their eighth wicket at the start of the 18th over, leaving them with 39 to win from only 17 balls. Pant so engaged in lighthearted banter with India colleague Kuldeep Yadav upon his entrance at the crease.

It happened during the second ball of the match's 18th over when Ravi Bishnoi delivered a flat delivery on off. Kuldeep attempted to cut off the back foot, but instead chopped it in front of the wicketkeeper.

Pant grabbed the ball fast while Kuldeep maintained his pose. The LSG captain then pushed Kuldeep out of the crease as he collapsed to the ground, and Pant removed the bails.
