The Delhi Capitals (DC) faced off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 4 of the IPL 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on March 24, 2025.
Delhi Capitals won the toss, and Axar Patel chose to bowl first. While Aiden Markram fell for 15 runs, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran added 87 runs for the second wicket. Marsh made 72 in 36 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes, while Pooran made 75 in 30 balls with 6 fours and 7 sixes.
Once they were out, LSG, which looked like scoring more than 220 runs, was restricted to 209/8 in 20 overs, that too thanks to David Miller’s 27* in 19 balls. Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets for DC, and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets.
DC had a horrible start to their chase, losing 3 quick wickets to 7 runs at the start. Faf du Plessis (29) and Axar Patel (22) steadied the ship a bit, but when they got out and Tristan Stubbs (34) was dismissed, DC was staring at the barrel at 113/6 in 12.3 overs.
However, Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh Sharma got some big overs thanks to some brilliant big-hitting. Nigam, on his debut, made 39 in 15 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes and added 55 runs in just 22 balls with Ashutosh.
Ashutosh remained at the crease, and the 17th and 18th overs leaked 18 and 19 runs each. Ashutosh ended the match by hitting a six to Shahbaz Ahmed after Mohit Sharma survived a close call.
Ashutosh remained unbeaten on 66 in 31 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes as DC won the game with 1 wicket in hand. Shardul Thakur, M. Siddharth, Digvesh Rathi, and Ravi Bishnoi picked two wickets each.
Ashutosh Sharma received the Player of the Match for his scintillating half-century.
The cricket fraternity was left stunned by the way DC crawled their way back for a 1-wicket win against LSG, thanks to Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam’s batting exploits. They took to social media to wholeheartedly praise the duo for this win.
