Virat Kohli was mobbed by a fan during the KKR v RCB match of the ongoing IPL 2025 season in Kolkata on March 22.
When Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener, Virat Kohli dazzled the entire Eden Gardens with a game-winning, undefeated knock of 59 runs. A pitch invader broke through security to meet his idol, Virat Kohli, during the thirteenth over of the RCB chase.
When the fan charged at him, Kohli was ready to take strike for the following ball. He became irritated and turned away in exasperation, but before he was taken away from the officials, Kohli collected himself, picked up the fan from his feet, and hugged him. The fan caressed Virat Kohli's feet as he entered the playing field. But the security guards dragged him away in a flash.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla made a gaffe and instead of showing concern for the security breach at the Eden Gardens, he instead called this fandom of Virat Kohli.
Taking to X, Shukla acknowledged Kohli's fan following and shared a post saying: "Amazing fan following of @imVkohli."
However, the cricket fans on X were unhappy with Rajeev Shukla’s nonchalant post and raised the issue of the safety of the players on the ground, if security is breached so easily.
