Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has come under scrutiny for passing a racist comment on England pacer Jofra Archer during an IPL 2025 match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (March 23).

The incident unfolded in the 18th over of SRH’s innings when Archer was bowling to Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. The insensitive remark came after Klaasen smashed Archer for consecutive boundaries.

"London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (In London the black cabs meter runs fast and here the meter of Archer runs fast)," Harbhajan said on-air.

The comment triggered a massive outrage on social media, with many calling for Harbhajan's immediate removal from the IPL 2025 commentary panel.

Archer had a tough time in his first IPL 2025 match for the Royals, conceding 76 runs without taking any wickets in four overs. This performance set a new record for the most expensive bowling figures in IPL history, surpassing Mohit Sharma's previous record of 0/73 for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals.

Coming to the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a thumping 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Invited to bat first, SRH racked up a mammoth 286/6 on the board. Ishan Kishan stole the show with a jaw-dropping century (106* off 47) while Travis Head (67 off 31), Heinrich Klaasen (34 off 14) and Nitish Reddy (30 off 15) also made vital contributions with the bat.

Chasing the target, RR batters also made the most of the flat Hyderabad pitch, with half-centuries from Sanju Samson (66 off 37), Dhruv Jurel (70 off 35) and quick cameos from Shubham Dubey (34 off 11) and Shimron Hetmyer (42 off 23). However, it wasn’t quite enough as SRH managed to restrict the Royals to 242/6.
