The heavyweights Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) squared off in Chennai on March 23, 2025, in the third game of the IPL 2025 season. At home, CSK won the toss and decided to bowl first.
MI selected Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, Trent Boult, and Mitchell Santner, while CSK selected Noor Ahmad, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Ellis, and Noor Ahmad as their four overseas players, respectively.
Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck off the fourth ball of the innings by Khaleel Ahmed. Ryan Rickelton followed soon for 13 runs, also dismissed by Khaleel. R Ashwin, back for CSK, dismissed the dangerous Will Jacks for 7 runs.
MI skipper for this match Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma 66 runs together to steady the ship, but some MS Dhoni magic ended Surya’s innings for 29 runs in 26 balls in the 11th over.
Noor Ahmad got Suryakumar Yadav to move out of his crease to hit him over the offside and the ball turned enough to beat his bat. Dhoni was waiting for the ball to pass the stumps and in a flash, disturbed the bails. The reaction time recorded was 0.12 seconds.
Though the umpire asked for the TV umpire’s help, Suryakumar knew that he was out and began walking towards the dugout, and seconds later the TV umpire confirmed the dismissal.
