Jasprit Bumrah is back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. After visiting the facility over a week ago, the India and Mumbai Indians pacer has returned to assess his readiness and seek permission to play in the IPL 2025. His availability, whether partial or full, will be determined during this visit.
This is his second visit in a short period. During his previous visit, he was said to have had pain and discomfort while bowling.
After witnessing him in action, the NCA supervisors suggested particular workouts and told him to return at a later date. However, this time there is a sense of optimism about his growth.
If he bowls comfortably and without pain or discomfort, he may be cleared to compete in the IPL. However, the prevailing belief is that he will need at least another week to be declared ready for an IPL match, therefore shutting him out of the Mumbai Indians' first two games.
Asked about Bumrah, MI coach Mahela Jayawardene sounded more hopeful than despondent on Wednesday.
“He just started that progress. We have to wait and see what their feedback is on him. At the moment, everything is going well but obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis, the progress. He is in good spirits and hopefully, he can join the team sooner. Obviously, not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years," the MI head coach said during a media conference.
Apart from this, Sanju Samson will also go back to the NCA for clearance next month. He has received partial clearance, which means he may bat but not keep wicket after surgery on his right index finger.
As a result, the Rajasthan Royals have chosen to play him primarily as an impact player, handing over the captaincy to Riyan Parag for the first three games. After that, Samson will consult with the NCA to see if he can resume goalkeeping duties.
