Tanmay Srivastava, who was part of the Virat Kohli-led U19 World Cup winning Indian team in 2008, will be one of the umpires in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The official announcement has been made, confirming that Tanmay will step into the IPL as an umpire this season.
Srivastava retired from professional cricket in 2020 and has since been officiating in domestic games.
“A true player never leaves the field—just changes the game. Wishing Tanmay Srivastava the best as he dons a new hat with the same passion," the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association tweeted on Monday.
Tanmay Srivastava played a total of seven IPL matches for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2008 and 2009.
While he didn’t get enough opportunism in the IPL, Srivastava enjoyed a solid domestic career, amassing 4918 runs from 90 first-class games with 10 hundreds and 27 half-centuries.
The 35-year-old also played 44 List A matches, scoring 1728 runs at an average of 44.30, including seven centuries.
It will be Srivastava’s U19 skipper, Kohli, who will be in action during the opening game of the IPL 2025 season, slated to be held at the Eden Gardens on March 22 between KKR and RCB.
