Nicholas Pooran has expressed his support for the new Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant while also adding that the franchise has a balanced squad to clinch the title in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Pant was appointed as LSG’s skipper in January. The wicketkeeper-batter was roped in for a staggering INR 27 crore (approximately US$ 3.21 million) during the mega auction last November, making him the most expensive buy in the IPL auction history.

"We have a good chance, we've a really balanced team (with) experienced and youth (players). We're looking forward to leading with the experienced players," Pooran told IANS.

The Caribbean cricketer was among the five players retained by the Super Giants for the 18th edition of the cash-rich league.

On Pant's appointment as LSG captain, Pooran said, "Yeah, again, there's a better, fresh air. He comes with his package his experiences, on his skill and talent, and we looking forward to see how he goes. He has our support 100% both on and off the field. Actions speak louder than words so let's see how it goes."

He also praised youngsters for their fearless display in the T20 format. "Obviously, the rules have changed. The players have gotten better as well. Both batters and bowlers. The younger guys have been extremely talented. Came into the tournament and obviously dominated from the moment started. So the game has changed. The rules have changed, and it's really exciting," Pooran said.

When asked about things he loves about India, the former West Indies captain replied, "I love most things about India, obviously. The way the people welcome you here, the way they support cricket, the love for cricket here. I just believe it's a dream, where we come from.

"Cricket isn't that loved anymore. So, you know, coming here is obviously something new and we really appreciate how the people here of India welcome us. I really love being here."

Lucknow Super Giants will open their IPL 2025 campaign on March 24 against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam.
