Mitchell Marsh, Australian all-rounder, has been medically cleared to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), but only as a batter. Marsh was ruled out of Australia's Champions Trophy campaign due to a lower-back ailment, casting questions on his participation in the IPL 2025.

The 33-year-old, who was unsure about his availability for his new side, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been given the go-ahead after consulting a back expert.

Marsh, 33, was ruled out of the ODI tour of Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy on January 31 owing to "lower back pain and dysfunction," therefore ending his domestic season. It was believed to be related to a disc condition that he had been dealing with since the limited overs tour of the United Kingdom in September 2024.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Marsh has been medically cleared to play following rehabilitation and a medical evaluation. He has been visiting with a back expert since early February 2025, and he has been instructed not to bowl or put too much strain on his back while fielding.

Marsh might play a niche position as an impact player for LSG, which already has a strong batting lineup that includes skipper Rishabh Pant, David Miller, and Nicholas Pooran.  Marsh's experience and versatility in the middle order might make him a valuable asset, even if his bowling is not available.

Marsh struggled with both bat and ball and was eventually withdrawn from Australia's Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy final match against India, where Beau Webster replaced him.

Following the Test series, the all-rounder played only one Big Bash League (BBL) match on January 7. He therefore decided to sit out the final three games of the season to rest emotionally and physically before the Champions Trophy. Unfortunately, his back difficulties worsened, prompting his withdrawal from the event.

Marsh is due to join LSG's squad on March 18, when he will reunite with his former Australia, Western Australia, and Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer, who is in his second season as LSG coach.
