The IPL 2025 mega-auction got underway in Jeddah with 577 players going under the hammer for a chance to be part of the world’s richest and most popular T20 league.

Out of the shortlisted players, 367 are Indians and 210 are overseas. A total of 204 slots are to be filled in the two-day auction, with 70 spots reserved for foreign players. INR 2 Crore is set as the highest reserve price with 81 players opting to be in the highest bracket.

In the first set, the likes of Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 Crore to Punjab Kings) and Rishabh Pant (INR 27 Crore to Lucknow Super Giants) hogged the headlines with their whopping price tags. Marquee players were up for grabs in the second set as well.

Here’s how the first three players fared in the second set:

Senior India pacer Mohammad Shami, who was released by Gujarat Titans, found a new home in Sunrisers Hyderabad. CSK, KKR and LSG were involved in a bidding war for Shami before SRH entered the scene and bought him for INR 10 Crore.

Next name out was the Proteas hard-hitter David Miller, who was also released by the Titans ahead of the grand auction. While GT, RCB and DC showed interest in Miller, it was the Lucknow Super Giants who managed to fetch the southpaw by spending INR 7.50 Crore.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who didn’t feature in Rajasthan Royals’ list of retained players earlier this month, was the third marquee player up for grabs in the second set.

The wrist-spinner was expected to attract several IPL franchises and that’s exactly what happened, with PBKS outbidding SRH, RCB, LSG, CSK and GT to secure his services for INR 18 Crore.
