Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the franchises that there will be two sets of marquee players in the upcoming player auction. The auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.
As per the Cricbuzz report, BCCI has informed that there will be two sets of marquee players featuring 8-9 names each. Although having two lists of elite players at a mega-auction is not uncommon, there was just one at the most recent one in 2022 IPL auction.
Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc, and Jos Buttler are among the players anticipated to be featured in the marquee sets.
It is anticipated that 30 to 50 percent of the available auction purse will have been spent by the end of the first two sets, with each top player setting a base price of INR 2 crore. Every franchise will probably purchase at least two well-known brands, which might cost them an average of INR 20–25 crore.
This would take INR 200–250 crore out of the INR 641.5 crore available fund. Of the allowed INR 1200 crore, the franchises have already spent INR 558.5 crore on recent retentions.
The auction proceedings in the two days will be dictated by the biddings in the first two sets of players most of whom are anticipated to be sold.
The BCCI will announce the precise bidding sequence and marquee list in the coming days. A list of 1,574 names was just released by the BCCI, with 409 players from outside and 1,165 Indian players. 320 capped, 1224 uncapped, and 30 associate players were included in the list. The teams have kept a total of 46 players.
The teams have been requested by the BCCI to recommend further names for the auction. A list of the players from the registration that the franchises would want to see on the final list must be submitted by November 12th.
Up to 70 of the 204 players that will be up for auction may be foreign players, assuming each team has a squad of no more than 25 players.
