Former England skipper Michael Vaughan reckons that the legendary James Anderson might turn up for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Anderson, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, has registered for the mega auction, slated be held in Jeddah for over two days on November 24 and 25.
The 42-year-old pacer has thrown his hat into auction ring at a base price of INR 1.25 crore, and it remains to be seen whether he manages to attract any franchise or not.
Vaughan feels CSK like to have swing bowlers at their disposal, and hence it would not surprise him if Anderson ends up playing for the Chennai-based franchise, which recently used the uncapped player rule to retain the services of MS Dhoni.
"You mention James Anderson, I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai Super Kings. You heard it here first. They are a team that like someone who can swing it in the first few overs. They had a swinger, be it Shardul Thakur," Vaughan said on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast.
"It would not surprise me if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai," he added.
Anderson has never participated in the IPL and his last T20 appearance was more than 10 years ago when he played in the Natwest T20 Blast match between Lancashire and Warwickshire.
“That’s the whole point of going in the auction, I think, I want to play cricket again. Whether I get picked up or not is a different matter. There’s definitely a feeling inside of me that I’ve got more to offer, in some shape or form,” Anderson said on Sky Sports.
“So, however long down the line that might be, in whatever capacity that might be I’m not sure yet. But I’m really keen to play. I feel really fit, I’ve been bowling still, ticking over, so I feel like I’m in a good place and I’d love to have an opportunity to play somewhere,” he added.
James Anderson played his farewell Test against the West Indies at Lord’s in July 2024, finishing with 704 scalps from 188 matches at an average of 26.45.
Anderson ended his Test career as the third-highest wicket-taker after Muthiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708). He is the highest wicket-taker amongst seamers in the purest format of the game.
As far as T20 cricket is concerned, Anderson has played 44 T20 matches, in which he has claimed 41 wickets at an economy rate of 8.47.
