Sundar played in IPL 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and has been with them for the past 2-3 seasons.

The 25-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder was signed for Rs 8.75 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction by SRH but only featured in 18 matches across three seasons.

The interest in Washington Sundar peaked thanks to his sublime performance in the recent second Test between India and New Zealand in Pune. Sundar, who was a surprise inclusion in the Indian XI in Pune, starred with 11 wickets to his name in the Test including a career-best 7/59 in 1st innings.

According to a recent report from The Times of India, three IPL franchises have shown interest in acquiring Washington Sundar.

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, along with IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans (GT) are reportedly interested in signing Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar in the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

Sundar is keen to go into the auction pool. At the moment, at least three teams—the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Gujarat Titans—have shown a huge interest in him. While he will not be on the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s retention list, SRH could retain Sundar in the IPL auction by using the RTM (Right to Match) card,” a reliable source told Times of India.

He is familiar with the Chepauk pitch, therefore the Chennai Super Kings may be interested in him. Sundar would benefit the Mumbai Indians by bowling during the powerplay and batting. Gujarat Titans may also bid for him since he might join Rashid Khan in the IPL bowling squad this season.

Sundar has played 52 T20Is for India, taking 47 wickets at an average of 23.48. He scored 161 runs for an average of 13.41, including a half-century.
