Paras Mhambrey, ex-India bowling coach, has now joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise as their bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Mhambrey’s tenure as India's bowling coach came to an end when the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados this June.
Mhambrey, who has played two Tests and three ODIs for India in 1996, will work closely with Lasith Malinga, who joined MI as bowling coach from Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.
This will be Mhambrey’s second stint as bowling coach with Mumbai Indians when they won the IPL for the first time in 2013.
In an official release, MI said, “Mumbai Indians, today, announced the return and appointment of Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach, who will work along with current bowling coach Lasith Malinga as part of the coaching team under Head Coach Mahela Jayewardene. Paras Mhambrey was part of the Mumbai Indians coaching team previously, with the team having won the IPL 2013, Champions League T20 (2011, 2013), a runner-up finish (2010), and two more playoff appearances in the IPL. Mhambrey’s latest stint was as the bowling coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, which culminated with the T20 World Cup win earlier this year.”
Mhambrey's hiring comes just days after former Sri Lankan captain Jayawardene was re-appointed as the Mumbai franchise's head coach. During Mahela's first tenure with MI, the Ambani-owned team won the IPL in 2017, 2019, and 2020 under Rohit Sharma's leadership.
