Kumar Sangakkara likely to make way for Rahul Dravid at Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025- Report

Sangakkara is reportedly one of candidates to become England white-ball coach.

Rahul Dravid likely to replace Kumar Sangakkara at RR | XKumar Sangakkara, the director of cricket and head coach of the Rajasthan Royals franchise, is reportedly likely to make way for Rahul Dravid to make his homecoming.

Sangakkara joined the RR franchise in IPL 2021 and led them to the final in IPL 2022. With the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) considering Kumar Sangakkara for their white-ball side, a vacancy for the Rajasthan Royals head coach role may occur.

This might permit a smooth transition from one great to another, with Rahul Dravid emerging as the clear choice to succeed in the Sri Lankan classic. Before joining the BCCI, Dravid coached the Jaipur franchise.

Sangakkara was recently questioned by the England media and he did not categorically reject the idea though he said that he is comfortable at the Royals.

"Well, I know my name has been mentioned for some reason, but there has not been any approach as such. I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there. I am very happy at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling and it has been a job I have really enjoyed over the last four years," Sangakkara was quoted as saying in the English media recently.

But, given Sangakkara’s closeness with Rob Key, the director of cricket for the England team, and his good relations with England's white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, nothing can be ruled out.

The England board has appointed Marcus Trescothick as interim coach for next month's five-match home ODI series against Australia.
