The meeting was held in BCCI headquarters and went for two hours.

IPL auction

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the owners of the ten IPL franchises met on July 31, 2024, to discuss the details of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. The meeting took place at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. All franchises had their owners in attendance and Mumbai Indians joined the meeting virtually.

Among the owners who have turned up at the meeting are Kiran Kumar Grandhi of Delhi Capitals, Sanjiv Goenka of Lucknow Super Giants, Rupa Gurunath of Chennai Super Kings, Kavya Maran of SunRisers Hyderabad, Manoj Badale of Rajasthan Royals and Prathmesh Mishra of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

A few owners attended the meeting via video conference, including the Mukesh Ambani of Mumbai Indians.

As per reports, a huge debate dominated the discussions as to whether there should be a mega auction or not.  The majority of the franchises were in favor of hosting a smaller auction and wanted more retentions to retain their core players.

Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan was the most vocal against a mega auction and reports indicated that he argued with Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia. It is understood that Shah Rukh was also in favour of major retentions while Wadia is believed to be against too many retentions.

The number of retentions will eventually be determined by a consensus on the mega auction, whether it takes place or not. If the BCCI decides to discontinue big auctions, retentions may no longer be required.
