Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL 2024 tournament and as a way of celebrating their win, the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa was lit up in Purple color.
KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the IPL final on May 26 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned team's victory was celebrated by fans and cricket fanatics in Dubai, with the famed structure illuminated up in purple.
The numerous images flashed on the iconic building revealed the Kolkata Knight Riders squad as well as Shah Rukh Khan, under the message: "Congratulations KKR. Congratulations, SRK.”
The franchise shared a video of the moment on social media, captioning it: "View from the top. It’s all PURPLE."
This was KKR’s third IPL title win after 2012 and 2014 and incidentally the two-time champion captain Gautam Gambhir, is now the mentor of the team. Shreyas Iyer finally won the IPL as a captain, after losing the final in IPL 2020 as Delhi Capitals captain.
