Ambati Rayudu, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer, was left distraught after the MS Dhoni-starred team was defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a crunch match of the IPL 2024. With this loss, CSK was knocked out of the tournament’s playoff race.
It was a spectacular comeback for RCB, who won six consecutive games to qualify for the playoffs. They were down and out after losing seven of their first eight games, but the team staged one of the greatest comebacks in tournament history to advance to the Eliminator.
Faf du Plessis’ 54 and Virat Kohli’s 47 paved the way for RCB’s 218/5 in 20 overs. They were helped thanks to cameos by Glenn Maxwell (16 in 5), Rajat Patidar (41), Cameron Green (38*) and Dinesh Karthik (14 in 6).
Needing 201 to qualify for the playoffs, CSK started poorly losing Ruturaj Gaikwad for 0 and Daryl Mitchell for 4 runs. Then, despite Rachin Ravindra’s 61, Ravindra Jadeja’s 42*, and MS Dhoni’s 25, RCB managed to restrict CSK to 191/7 and won the game by 27 runs.
This loss meant that CSK was eliminated from the race of the IPL 2024 playoffs and probably the fans saw MS Dhoni in action in IPL for the final time.
Meanwhile, Ambati Rayudu, who was commentating during the match, could not control his emotions and screamed in agony as CSK crashed out of the tournament.
