Lucknow Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise co-owner Sanjiv Goenka hosted KL Rahul for a special dinner at his residence in New Delhi on Monday, May 13. The dinner meeting came a day before LSG's crucial IPL 2024 game against Delhi in the capital city.

LSG, who had a five-day break, will face Delhi on Tuesday and then travel to Mumbai on May 17. LSG are at the 7th spot with 12 points from as many games.

Goenka and Rahul’s meeting comes after their much controversial incident after LSG’s loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 7. Goenka was seen giving a dressing down to KL Rahul after SRH chased down 165 runs in 9.4 overs in Hyderabad.

In the aftermath, experts and fans criticized Goenka for his treatment of his franchise captain KL Rahul. Reports also suggested that KL Rahul might not captain the franchise in the final two games of the tournament.

However, those rumors were quelled as Goenka hosted Rahul at his residence in Delhi. The LSG owner was also seen embracing Rahul during the meeting and photos of the dinner hosted by the co-owner went viral on social media.

KL Rahul was upbeat and looking in good spirits as he spent time with owner Sanjiv Goenka ahead of one of the most crucial matches of the season for LSG.

Meanwhile, LSG coach Justin Langer has revealed what Sanjiv Goenka was telling KL Rahul during that heated discussion. He claimed that the conversation between the two was quite ‘tame’ and in the absence of any sound, it gave the wrong impression.

“It’s a massive storm in a teacup, in fact in an espresso cup. The thing that fascinates me about India is this incredible passion for cricket. Mr Goenka is no different. I’m no different. KL is no different,” Langer told Times of India.

Langer said Goenka just talked about what LSG plan to do next given their plan hasn’t worked so far, particularly during the IPL 2024 clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad that resulted in a 10-wicket thrashing.

“Our plan for the game didn’t go perfectly. It was a disaster. After the game, Mr Goenka came onto the field and asked KL, ‘What happened? Our plan that we talked about hasn’t worked. What do we do now?’ And then we talked through it. The sound was off, no one heard what was said. It might have looked quite aggressive, but it was quite tame,” Langer added.

LSG have to win both their remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs.
