The pitch invader fell at Dhoni’s feet before being escorted out of the ground during GT vs CSK clash.

Fan invaded the pitch to touch MS Dhoni's feet | BCCI-IPLA fan breached the security and ran onto the field to touch MS Dhoni’s feet during Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday (May 10).

Less than 24 hours after the incident, the die-hard fan was arrested for trespassing and illegal entry in the stadium, police confirmed on Saturday (May 11) while also disclosing his identity.

The pitch invader, who fell at Dhoni’s feet before being escorted out of the ground by security personnel, has been identified as Jai Bharat - a final-year BA student.

Addressing the media, Ahmedabad ACP Digvijay Singh Rana said that a case of trespassing and illegal entry has been registered against the accused student.

"Yesterday, during the IPL match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, a college student jumped onto the field and started running towards the pitch. There was a break during the match and the accused thought of meeting Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Constables present at the spot apprehended him," ACP Rana said.

"In the preliminary investigation, we found that he had no other intentions. A case has been registered against him for trespassing and illegal entry during the match," he added.

Coming to the match, Chennai Super Kings suffered a comprehensive 35-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Invited to bat first, GT rode on sublime centuries from Shubman Gill (104 off 55) and Sai Sudharsan (103 off 51) to rack up a massive 231/3 on the board.

In reply, the defending champions managed 196/8 in their allotted 20 overs. While Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34 balls) and Moeen Ali (56 off 36 balls) slammed brilliant half-centuries, they didn’t get ample support from others.

Batting at No. 8, MS Dhoni produced a crucial came of 26* in just 11 balls with one boundary and three sixes but it wasn't enough to save CSK from a certain defeat.
