Gujarat Titans (GT) put on an inspired display at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 35 runs in Match 59 of IPL 2024. The result meant that GT kept their faint playoff hopes alive, while CSK now need to win their remaining two matches to qualify.
After being inserted in to bat first by CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, GT captain Shubman Gill (104) and Sai Sudharsan (103) struck hundreds and added 210 runs for the first wicket. GT eventually finished with 231/3 in their 20 overs.
CSK got off to the worst start possible as they were reduced to 10/3, before Daryl Mitchell (63) and Moeen Ali (56) stabilized the innings but the required run-rate kept rising which proved to be too hard to achieve for the visitors who finished at 196/8 to lose by 35 runs.
Towards the end of the innings, MS Dhoni entertained the 90,000 fans in attendance by smashing three sixes in his 11-ball 26*. He also brought out the vintage helicopter shot off Rashid Khan which made his fans happy despite the disappointment of the heavy defeat.
