IPL 2024: Cricket fraternity stunned as SRH's Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma chase 166 in 9.4 overs v LSG

MI got officially eliminated from race to playoffs thanks to SRH's win over LSG.

Travis Head made 89* in 30 balls | BCCI-IPLSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 57th match of the IPL 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on May 8, 2024. This match saw carnage of epic proportions thanks to SRH’s Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat first. Quinton de Kock (2), Marcus Stoinis (3), and KL Rahul (29) were back in the hut quite early for the LSG. Krunal Pandya’s good effort of 24 with 2 sixes was cut short due to a runout.

Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni added 99* runs for the fifth wicket and rescued LSG. Pooran remained unbeaten on 48 in 26 balls with 6 fours and 1 six and Badoni made 55* in 30 balls with 9 fours to his name.

Their efforts took LSG to a respectable 165/4 in 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 2/12 in his 4 overs.

SRH was expected to chase down the total, however, no one expected how their openers annihilated the LSG bowlers while doing so. Openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went on a rampage from first over onwards.

Even LSG KL Rahul was left dumbfounded at the blitzkrieg by the SRH openers. SRH’s 50 came up in just 3.1 overs and team 100 came in 5.4 overs. Travis Head reached his fifty in 16 balls, while Abhishek reached his in 19 balls. After reaching their milestones, both batters aggressed further.

Abhishek remained unbeaten on 75 in 28 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes, while Travis Head made 89* in 30 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes, as LSG achieved the target in just 9.4 overs with all 10 wickets in hand.

SRH also moved to the third spot in IPL 2024 points table with 14 points form 12 games and 7 wins and bettered their NRR which now stands at 0.406. SRH defeating LSG also meant that Mumbai Indians became the first team to the eliminated from the race for the playoffs.

The cricket fraternity was just gobsmacked at the way SRH openers batted and praised them both on social media.
