Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop slammed fans for their double standards while targeting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer. KKR are recently at the top of the IPL 2024 points table after they defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 98 runs.

Iyer has been on the receiving end of some harsh criticism on social media from fans, who have instead credited mentor and former captain Gautam Gambhir for the franchise's stunning form this season

This didn’t sit well with Ian Bishop, who has been observing the KKR franchise closely shut down multiple trolls and questioned fans for showing double standards by attributing KKR's wins to Gambhir and defeats to Iyer.

While crediting Gambhir for bringing the winning mentality back at KKR, Bishop highlighted Iyer's respectable record as captain during the previous seasons.

This all started when Ian Bishop had posted on X: “Any love for Shreyas Iyer????” To this, a fan responded by saying: “Shreyas captained the same side in 2022 and we all know the results. Of course, he's a decent captain but GG has much bigger impact to turn things around for this team.”

"Shreyas became DC captain in 2018 when GG stepped down after DC lost 5 of first 6 gms. DC then finished the season winning 4 of next 8 games. 2019 DC 3rd, 2020 DC 2nd. 2021 injury & only 8gms so Pant captained. To KKR 2022, new franchise, 7th. Missed 2023. 2024," Bishop responded to fan on his post.

The fan responded: “But GG came back, he worked his magic on Narine & kept young Angkrish as backup for early PP wicket & sent Shreyas+Venky in middle overs against spin where they're more comfortable. Now we all can the huge impact of this calls,Shreyas may have some role in this but main man is GG”

To this, Bishop asked: “So GG gets the praise when they win. Shreyas gets the blame if they lose? Or will you say its GG's fault to if they lose?”
