Suryakumar Yadav added 143* runs for 4th wicket with Tilak Varma | BCCI-IPLMumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clashed in the 55th match of the IPL 2024 on May 6. This encounter was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI came into this encounter after a big loss to KKR at home, while SRH was coming with a one-run win over RR.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma opened for SRH, but the Indian southpaw got out for 11 runs, after adding 56 runs in 6 overs for the opening wicket.

Travis Head scored 48 runs with seven fours and one six, as SRH continued to lose wickets for very few runs. Mayank Agarwal (5), Heinrich Klaasen (2), Nitish Reddy (20), and Marco Jansen (17) failed to provide the runs that SRH required in the middle overs.

The Sunrisers only managed to score 173/8 in 20 overs owing to captain Pat Cummins' stunning 35, which included two fours and two sixes.  Piyush Chawla (3/33) and Hardik Pandya (3/31) were Mumbai's top bowlers.

Mumbai had an even worse start to their innings as Rohit Sharma (4), Ishan Kishan (9) and Naman Dhir (0) failed. But then Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma came together and added 143* runs for the fourth wicket.

Varma played a supporting role of 37* in 32 balls with 6 fours, but it was Suryakumar Yadav, who accelerated amazingly after reaching his 50 in 30 balls. He took a further 21 balls to reach his century.

Suryakumar Yadav opted for sixes and fours as an injury hampered his ability to run freely. Suryakumar Yadav reached his second IPL hundred with a six and also took SRH to victory. Yadav remained unbeaten on 102 in 51 balls with 12 fours and 6 sixes.

MI won the game with 7 wickets in hand and as a result, moved to the 9th spot with 8 points from 12 games, but a better NRR than Gujarat Titans. SRH moved to 4th spot with 6 wins from 11 games and 12 points, but their NRR took a hit.

Suryakumar Yadav was universally praised by the cricket fraternity for his composed knock and for helping MI win the match.
