Ball kid Atharwa Gupta became a viral sensation after taking a brilliant catch outside the boundary ropes in the recent IPL 2024 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, May 5.

Marcus Stoinis delivered an upper shot that soared beyond the boundary ropes. Atharwa responded fast to the shot and positioned himself perfectly for the capture. The next minute, a television camera focused on the LSG dugout, and Rhodes appeared on the big screen, admiring the young boy's efforts.

After the match, the ball kid got to meet Jonty Rhodes, often credited with making fielding look appealing. Rhodes gave a few fielding and catching tips to the youngster, who couldn't believe his luck.

Unfortunately, LSG was hammered by KKR in the encounter. Riding on opener Sunil Narine's blistering 39-ball 81, KKR posted a mammoth 235 for 6 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. In reply, three wickets each by Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy helped KKR restrict LSG to 137 and win the match by 98 runs.
