IPL 2024: CSK suffer huge blow as Matheesha Pathirana returns home to recover from injury

Matheesha Pathirana picked 13 wickets for CSK in IPL 2024.

Matheesha Pathirana | APChennai Super Kings (CSK) chances of progressing to the playoffs in the ongoing IPL 2024 have taken a huge blow. The franchise announced that its Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana has returned home to recover from a hamstring injury.

Matheesha Pathirana has been one of the best bowlers in the Indian Premier League, since joining the Chennai Super Kings. In the ongoing IPL 2024, Pathirana had taken 13 wickets at an economy of 7.68.

Pathirana had missed CSK’s previous match against Punjab Kings, and Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had said during the toss that the Sri Lankan was suffering from a niggle. He was replaced by England pacer Richard Gleeson, who made his IPL debut.

There seemed to be hopes of Pathirana returning to action soon, but on May 5, 2024, the Chennai Super Kings confirmed the worst and revealed that the pacer has returned to Sri Lanka to continue his recovery from the injury.

“Chennai Super Kings pacer Matheesha Pathirana is nursing a hamstring injury and will be returning to Sri Lanka for further recovery. The right-arm pacer played six matches in IPL 2024 picking up 13 wickets at an economy of 7.68. Chennai Super Kings wishes Pathirana a quick recovery,” CSK posted on their website.
