IPL 2024: Cricket fraternity reacts as SRH wins an edge-of-the-seat thriller by just 2 runs v PBKS

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s all-round performance stood out as he made 64 and picked 1 wicket.

Nitish Kumar Reddy |BCCI-IPLOn April 9, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) played a thrilling encounter in the 23rd match of the IPL 2024 at the new Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

Shikhar Dhawan, the home team captain, won the toss and decided to bowl first. Arshdeep Singh had a strong start by dismissing Travis Head (21) and Aiden Markram (0). SRH were in trouble at 39/3 and 64/4 after 10 overs.

However, in the final ten overs, Nitish Kumar Reddy (64 in 37 balls), Abdul Samad (12), and others helped SRH to 182/9 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh starred in 4/29. Sam Curran and Harshal Patel took two wickets each.

In response, PBKS started poorly, with Pat Cummins clean bowling Jonny Bairstow for a duck and Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissing dangerous Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan (14).

Sam Curran sought to take the assault to the SRH bowlers, scoring 29 with two fours and two sixes before being dismissed.

In the end, it came down to Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma once again trying to snatch a win from jaws of defeat and the duo almost did so. They added 66 runs in 27 balls for the 7th wicket.

Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh | BCCI-IPLAshutosh made 33* in 15 balls, while Shashank made 46* in 25 balls. The duo almost pulled off, chasing 29 runs in the last over bowled by Jaydev Unadkat. They hit three sixes amidst three drop catches, but the ask was too much.

PBKS finished on 180/6 and lost by only 2 runs. For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 2/32, and Nitish Reddy excelled with the ball, taking 1/33. SRH moved to the 5th spot in the IPL 2024 points table, while PBKS slipped to the 6th.

Nitish Reddy was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock and one wicket.

The cricket fraternity was left stunned as the match went right down to the wire and praised both SRH and PBKS performers on social media.
