Delhi Capitals ended their long wait to announce a replacement for England batter Harry Brook, who opted out of the IPL 2024 due to personal reasons.
The franchise on Monday (April 8) roped in South Africa’s pace sensation Lizaad Williams as a replacement player.
The Capitals have signed Lizaad for his base price of INR 50 lakh. The Proteas pacer made his international debut in 2021 and has since represented his country in two Tests, four ODIs, and 11 T20Is.
Overall, Williams has 106 T20 wickets to his name from 83 matches, with a bowling average and economy of 19.76 and 7.79 respectively. He will bolster DC’s pace department, which features his compatriot Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Jhye Richardson and Mukesh Kumar.
Delhi Capitals have not had a good start to their IPL 2024 campaign, having lost four out of their first five matches. They are languishing at the bottom of the points table and their Net Run Rate took a big dent after they conceded in excess of 200 in their last two fixtures.
KKR racked up 272 in 20 overs and defeated Delhi by 106 runs in Vizag while MI posted 234 on the board and secured a 29-run win at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 7).
Delhi Capitals will next face Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday (April 12).
