M Siddharth celebrates the wicket of Virat Kohli | GettyLucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner M Siddharth stayed true to his words as he dismissed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli in Match 15 of the IPL 2024 season at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (April 2).

Before the game, LSG head coach Justin Langer had requested the young left-arm spinner to get Kohli out, having watched him bowl an arm-ball in the nets.

Siddharth, who is introvert in nature, had responded with a nod and "Yes sir!" then. As it turned out, he got rid of a well-set Kohli on 22. It was also his maiden IPL wicket as he went wicketless on debut against PBKS on March 30.

After the game, LSG shared a video on social media, in which Langer was seen talking about his first impression of Siddarth.

"Had never spoken to him before... I saw bowl an arm ball. The first thing to come out of my mouth after meeting M Siddharth was 'Hey Sid! you reckon you can get Virat out for us?' He goes, 'Yes sir!'. And what did he do? He gets him out," Langer said amid loud cheers in the LSG change room.

In the post-match presser, M Siddharth revealed that it was a dream for him to get the prized scalp of Virat Kohli.

"I had always dreamt of taking his wicket. You can ask anyone... It's the biggest wicket you can take. I'm really happy," Siddharth said. "I just wanted to keep it simple. I backed my strengths and I knew if I could hit the correct lengths, I could do well for the team."

Coming to the match, LSG rode on Quinton de Kock’s 56-ball 81 and Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 40 off 21 balls to rack up 181/5 on the board after being asked to bat first.

In reply, RCB’s innings folded for 153 in 19.4 overs. Speedster Mayank Yadav was the chief destroyer with the ball, returning with the figures of 3/14 in his four overs.

With this comprehensive 28-run victory, LSG moved to the fourth spot on the IPL 2024 points table, featuring 10 teams.
