Vyshak Vijaykumar, a fast bowler from Royal Challengers Bangaluru (RCB), stood out as a key player for the home team during their seven-wicket loss on a slow track against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the 10th game of the ongoing IPL 2024.
Vijaykumar delivered an impressive performance, finishing with figures of 1 for 23 in his allotted four overs against KKR. Reflecting on his impressive show, the RCB pacer shared the mantra he followed to make an impact on the sluggish pitch.
Vijaykumar stressed that his decision to stick to a particular approach on the slow pitch ultimately proved effective against the KKR. On the other hand, the rest of the RCB bowling attack struggled to trouble the KKR batters, but the Karnataka pacer managed to shine bright.
Vyshak Vijaykumar stated: “When I saw in the first innings, uh, they were mixing it up well. So, you know, the ones which were banged in and short and which was slower. It was a little tough for, Virat bhai (Virat Kohli) to score.”
He added, “So obviously if he couldn't score, I knew that if I put it right there, nobody could score. So, I just thought I'll do that, you know, mix up my variations with some yorkers and hard length and some bouncers. So, I was just trying to mix up with the pace, So I think that's what helped me.”
It was Vyshak’s first game in this season, and the Karnataka pacer revealed that he has been gaining valuable insights from practicing alongside seasoned players such as Alzarri Joseph, Cameron Green, Lockie Ferguson, and Reece Topley during training sessions.
He signed off by saying, “Well, obviously, I've been working hard in the nets, you know, with the coaches. So, I've learned quite a bit with the new players coming in. You know, Alzarri has come in, Green has come in. You know, Lockie has come in and Reece. So, I have been working together with them. It's been helping.”
