IPL 2024: “Sometimes you cross the line…,” Irfan Pathan weighs in on wholesome Gambhir-Kohli reunion

Gambhir and Kohli were seen shaking hands, sharing smiles and hugs during the RCB-KKR clash.

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli | XFormer India opener Gautam Gambhir’s equation with star batter Virat Kohli remains a mystery for the cricket fans.

During the IPL 2013 season, the then KKR skipper Gambhir was involved in a heated face-off with RCB’s Kohli before they were separated by other players.

A similar incident was also witnessed in last year’s IPL as LSG mentor Gambhir had an ugly spat with Kohli. That altercation had created quite a stir in the cricket fraternity and it continues to draw attention even after so many months.

However, the cricket fans on Friday (March 29) saw an unexpected on-field reunion between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. They were seen shaking hands, sharing smiles and hugs during the IPL 2024 match between KKR and RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The significant moment of reconciliation between the two former adversaries was captured on camera, much to the delight of the fans and experts alike.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who has played alongside both Kohli and Gambhir, shared his thoughts on the wholesome scenes, highlighting the maturity shown by the KKR mentor in initiating the reconciliation.

"Gautam Gambhir, the senior guy, actually came forward. Sometimes you cross the line but as soon as that thing has gone past, when you meet in the future, when you meet now, you meet nicely. This is what we saw," Pathan said on Star Sports.

Coming to the match, KKR registered an emphatic seven-wicket victory over RCB and added two crucial points to their tally.

Andre Russell was the pick of the Kolkata bowlers as he picked up two wickets by conceding only 29 runs in his four overs.

In reply, KKR’s opening duo of Sunil Narine (47 off 22) and Philip Salt (30 off 20) made a mockery of RCB’s bowling attack, adding 86 runs in just 6.3 overs.

After their dismissals, the likes of Venkatesh Iyer (50 off 30) and Shreyas Iyer (39* off 24) stepped up and took the visitors over the line in just 16.5 overs.
