Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Virender Sehwag, made a cheeky yet controversial remark on the legendary MS Dhoni while praising Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) fielding efforts in the ongoing IPL 2024. He also rated Ajinkya Rahane as a fitter player than Dhoni.
Actually, Sehwag was praising CSK for their remarkable display of fielding prowess during their IPL 2024 match against the Gujarat Titans at the Chepauk Stadium.
In this match, senior batter Rahane showcased his agility by diving forward to snatch a sensational catch from David Miller, while CSK newcomer Rachin Ravindra also grabbed a couple of impressive catches. However, it was the catch taken by Dhoni that stole the spotlight at Chepauk Stadium.
The 42-year-old wicketkeeper-batter showed exceptional athleticism by executing a fully stretched dive of 2.27 meters to his right to pluck a breathtaking one-handed catch.
Dhoni's acrobatic efforts left fans at the Chepauk Stadium mesmerized and the cricketing world in awe, especially considering the age of the former CSK skipper. Well, Dhoni’s former India teammate Sehwag couldn't help but marvel at his agility, albeit with a playful jibe, referring to him as 'buzurg'.
Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz: “Catches win matches. Ajinkya Rahane picked a good catch so did Rachin Ravindra. Buzurg (old) MS Dhoni also picked one.”
Rohan Gavaskar, who was also part of the discussion immediately replied by saying, “You didn't refer to Rahane as buzurg.”
Sehwag clarified that there is a big age difference between Rahane and Dhoni, and that’s why he didn’t refer to the Mumbai batter as buzurg. He also said that the fact is that Dhoni is getting older.
He signed off by saying, “Their age is not the same, there is a difference and Rahane is also fitter than MS Dhoni. There is a big difference between a 35-year-old and a 41-year-old. MS is getting old now there is no doubt about it.”
